Peter Shope wins the Pete Milnes Regatta

Congratulations to Peter Shope for proving that even the big guys can crush in 4-8 knots!

A note from Fleet 413:
Though the weather wasn't as good as it could've been, we still had a solid turnout for the annual Pete Milnes Regatta. A big thanks to the Milnes family for providing the shore-side organization and the spread at the AC and to our crack RC team: Moose McClintock, Betsy McClintock, Dave Moffet, Collin Moffet and Christine Roberts. Seven races in some fairly dicey wind conditions proved how hard they were working to get us racing. We even had a surprise from Bruce Kirby, who happened by the boat park as we were hauling out and then brought his wife Margo by the AC afterward for the party. If you don't know who he is, then get cracking on Google and then feel shame!

Peter Shope won the day, though it wasn't easy. He averaged a robust 5.6 points per finish. Andy Pimintal was second and Scott Milnes, third.

NOR is out for the May Madness Regatta!

The May Madness Regatta has proven to be a fun day with 15 to 22 boats of all skill levels showing up. The racing is just minutes from the club house and offers the challenges of lake sailing at its best. In past years some of the area’s best Laser sailors have won this regatta and consider it a great regatta to kick off the season with!

We welcome new sailors, those getting back into the sport and young people ready to sail in an away regatta. Guests can view the races from the comfort of the QYC front porch.

The Pete Milnes Regatta is coming up Saturday, April 24th!

Pete Milnes was the founding father of Newport's Fleet 413. Fleet 413 has put out some of today’s best laser sailors and it is this regatta in particular that they all come back to sail in as Pete was an incredible inspiration to them all.

Pete is remembered for his smile and enthusiasm but also for his competitiveness and pure talent on the racecourse. Hey, and if you sail clean, he might drop down a shift or two for you!

Come and sail with the best and enjoy a great time!

***Fleet 413 wants a HUGE turnout this year so there are reduced entry fees for out-of state sailors and all juniors under 18 will get to sail free!
