Late August promises some excellent D7 fresh water regattas that count for the 2026 Grand Prix. Then we roll into September with bigger winds and classic events like the New England Masters at Wickford. Keep hiking! To reach registration pages, when available, click on the links in the schedule below Malletts Bay Boat Club ILCA D7 Vermont Open, Aug 23, MBBC Colchester, VT Scoring count twice for the 2026 Grand Prix!! Registration is free! Malletts Bay Boat Club (MBBC) is hosting the Vermont leg of the District 7 Laser Gran Prix Regatta series on August 23. (NOTE THE REGATTA HAS BEEN SHORTENED TO ONE DAY.) MBBC is located on Lake Champlain just north of Burlington, Vermont.  It's a beautiful regatta venue with sailing on Malletts Bay, protected from large waves yet unobstructed breezes.  The Club has a long history of hosting large regattas including the Lightning Worlds and J24 and Laser National Championships.  This event counts twice for the Grand Prix. Come support lake sailing in D7.    Lake Sunapee Yacht Club One Design Regatta, Aug 29-30, Sunapee YC, Sunapee, NH Lake Sunapee is hosting the 2026 New Hampshire Grand Prix event. I was lucky enough to attend this regatta last year, and it was a blast. The club is welcoming, and the race course just off the clubhouse porch.  Housing is available, but act quickly! Lake Winnipesaukee Yacht Club ILCA Regatta The WYC ICLA regatta will take place on September 12, as part of the multi-fleet WYC Commodore's Cup Regatta. This is going to be a great fall fresh water event, and D7 is so happy to have WYC offer this event to D7 sailors. You can register via email @ Email: edwarddphilpot@gmail.com Subject Title: WYC Commodores Cup registration Include your name, ILCA class, and sail number Registrants must check in on Saturday morning 0900-1000 Skippers Meeting at 1000 and First Gun at 1100 Cost is $40. The ILCA Regatta is part of the Commodore's Cup Regatta and is held in conjunction with the WYC lobster feed dinner which is a major Club event. Participating sailors are welcome to join, but reservations and prepayment are necessary. Space is limited and the event sells out.  11/2 pd lobsters $25, grill steak $25. Cheeseburgers $8 Email your registration to lauracameron603@gmail.com  or 603-455-2700 cell, reservation must be received by Tuesday, Sept. 8th.    Cedar Point YC Rear Commodore's Cup, Sept 7th, CPYC, Westport, CT Cedar Point has one of the most beautiful venues for racing in all of D7.  Don't miss this friendly and fun annual event. While you are there, find the D7 perpetual ILCA Championship trophy on the clubhouse wall!  New England Masters, September 12-13, Wickford YC, Wickford, RI This is one of best classic events of the season for the Aleve crowd. Skip and Barbara always put on an excellent regatta.  Great sailors come from CT, MA, ME and further afield to ply the waters off the North Kingston Town Beach. Could be blowing 5 or 25, but Skip will let you sail. Then you can have a great dinner at WYC and do it all again on Sunday. Stonington Harbor Red Lobdell Memorial Regatta , October 2nd, and Stonington Fall Series Stonington opens its fall series with the Red Lobdell Memorial Regatta, a fun, multi-fleet regatta followed by good cheer at the club. Signing up for this event also registers you for the SHYC fall series, sailing each Saturday, which started August 8th and runs through October 24th.   Stonington Harbor Yacht Club Fall Series - Saturdays Until Oct 30th Red Lobdell Memorial Regatta - Oct 2nd  Bristol YC Frostbiting, Oct 24 - March October 24th is Bristol YC's frostbiting kickoff day and their annual Stuffie Regatta. Big lawn to rig on, easy ramp to launch from and not too far sail out, just outside of mooring field. First race at 1pm, drinks and snacks afterwards. Or drop in any other Saturday during their frostbiting season which goes until March, only taking a few holiday weekends off. Our Frostbite Series consists of two fleets:  Lasers and Aeros. Races are held right off the BYC pier using our uniquely designed "RC Shack". Need a boat? We'll try to hook you up with one. The weather may be cold, but the action is hot and the fellowship tops, both on the water and off in the BYC Chart Room. To learn more about Frostbiting, contact Flip Myerson or Dave Guinther   District News Stone Horse ILCA Regatta Report by Fleet Captain James Nicol Stone Horse YC had a successful ILCA regatta August 2nd. The weekend offered everything needed: perfect weather, 21 competitors, great sailing and racing, no protests (phew), and numerous volunteers from well beyond the fleet. In short, another very positive regatta hosted by Stone Horse. Before I get on to the sailing, a shout out and thank you to all the volunteers who made it all go swimmingly (in my case…) ·       Molly Nicol and Nancy Quirk on registration ·       Bryan Sherbacow, Brian Leaver, Jeff Hershey and Jim Kurtowicz on parking ·       John King, Judy Howard, Pam Johnson, and Davide Visco were PRO and Racombo scoring crew ·       Molly Nicol and Jen Visco did Scoring ashore ·       Caitlin Robbie led the safety boat team, assisted by her staff, and the McAvoys, Mitchells and Sullivans, and also the USCG auxiliary with Vicky Wiseman at the helm ·       Marcia King picked up food twice (apologies Marchia!), Ben Forman got the coffee and bagels ·       Brian Leaver was there for clean-up And Katy Sullivan gets credit for photos. If I’ve omitted anyone, my apologies. Thank you all!! As for the sailing, the weather couldn’t have been better. Winds initially were about 15 from the SW, with 3-6 foot swells, but after race 2, conditions calmed down dramatically, with SW winds of about 10 and 1-3 foot swells. John ran W courses of varying lengths, with a leeward mark just upwind of the start/finish line. We had 14 ILCA 7 (standard) sailors and 6 in the ILCA 6 (radial) fleet. Across both fleets, we had a very respectable 10 Stone Horse participants and 5 from Hyannis.  In the ILCA 7 fleet, the top finishers were John Northacker from HYC, Peter Hopple, and Jeff Hart from HYC. Congratulations to all, but especially Peter for getting on the podium. He had a 1st and 2 2nd’s among his finishes. In the ILCA 6 fleet, top finishers were all from SHYC: Brian Mitchell, Sarah Yuskaitis (Sarah, we’re claiming you now!), and Jeff Morgan, who, following 2 (ahem) “equipment malfunctions” and a DNF in Race 1, had a strong day. Congratulations to all! One of the comments I heard from a New Bedford sailor was typical of others I heard throughout the day, that despite the drive, he loves coming here for the regatta: the location, the people, and that it’s a one day event vs a whole weekend for a change.  24 hours later, its blowing 20-30, intermittent rain, with a small craft advisory up. We were very lucky!  Thanks again to everyone for assisting and sailing, and we’ll plan to do the same next year.  James Nicol
